Good evening, Arsenal fans. Here are your evening headlines for Thursday, September 10.
Arteta’s role in Aubameyang contract decision
Arsenal are set to complete one of their most important pieces of transfer business this summer: keeping Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the Emirates Stadium.
According to The Athletic, the Gabon international has agreed to a new three-year contract with the Gunners that surpasses the £350,000-a-week deal handed out to Mesut Ozil in January 2018.
While the decision-makers behind the scenes at Arsenal deserve credit for brokering a new contract for the club’s standout performer over the last two seasons, convincing Aubameyang that his future was with the Gunners would not have been possible without Mikel Arteta.
And it’s the way in which the Spanish coach has dealt with both the situation off the pitch and the forward’s development on it that has proved most impressive, as Art de Roche explains here.
PSG make transfer decision that impacts Bellerin
Hector Bellerin looks set to stay at Arsenal this summer after potential suitors Paris Saint-Germain turned their attention to Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi.
Thomas Tuchel’s side have been heavily linked with the Gunners’ right-back in recent weeks, with a potential £30 million switch to Ligue 1 giants mooted.
However, Sky Sports Italy now report the French champions are very close to signing the Roma right-back after failing to lure Bellerin away from the Gunners.
While Arsenal were prepared to sell the Spaniard for the right price, keeping him at the club will ensure much-needed continuity going into a hectic 2020/21 campaign.
