Arsenal are interested in a move for Fluminese striker Marcos Paulo, who has a £40 million release clause in his contract according to Brazilian newspaper
The report also claims that The Gunners are joined by Premier League rivals, Leeds, Southampton, Watford and West Ham in the race for the striker’s signatue.
Mikel Arteta has wasted no time in strengthening his squad this summer, and Paulo would certainly add additional strength to the attacking options.
Paulo, who was born in Brazil, has chosen to represent Portugal at the youth international level, qualifying for the European nation via his grandfather, a factor which would make obtaining a work permit a far easier prospect.
Whilst £40 million isn’t as a big a fee as it once may have been regarded, for a relatively unknown 19-year-old, who to date has only played a handful of professional matches, it’s a fee which presents still a sizeable gamble.
