The arsenal transfer mill continues to spin and rumours circulate. Here’s your evening transfer digest
Napoli president confirms interest in Sokratis
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed his side are interested in a move for Arsenal defender Sokratis.
With the arrival of Gabriel earlier in the week, it would seem that the Greek centre-back has fallen even further down the pecking order at the Emirates.
Napoli could be Sokratis’ next destination, with the Naples-based club keen on bringing the experienced defender to Italy, as per Il Napoli Online.
De Laurentiis said: “We are working on signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Arsenal, we consider it an option.”
Boost in the chase of Umtiti
Barcelona are prepared to allow Samuel Umtiti to leave for free this summer, according to reports from Spain.
Cadena Ser via TeamTalk is reporting that Barca have placed Umtiti on the transfer list, but with no team showing an interest in him, they are prepared to rip up his contract and let him leave for nothing.
The former Lyon man has a deal with the Spanish club until 2023, but the Catalans will be happy to reach an agreement over letting him go for free, according to the report.
Umtiti has been heavily linked with the Gunners for a number of months now as Mikel Arteta looks to freshen up his squad this summer.
‘Serious interest’ shown in Timothy Castagne
Arsenal showed “serious interest” in Timothy Castagne before the Atalanta defender made a £21 million move to Leicester City.
That is according to the player’s agent, George Gardi, who has revealed all in an interview with Tuttomercatoweb.
“There were several teams seriously interested in the player, such as Arsenal and PSG, (but) Leicester, having made an important sale (Ben Chilwell to Chelsea), were first among the contenders to meet the demands of both Atalanta and the player,” Gardi told ‘The Mirror’.
“He will bring (to Leicester) all the tactical knowledge he has learned in Italy, the ability to know how to play on both sides and his natural quality of being able to express himself in the two phases.”
The 24-year-old scored five goals in 76 appearances for the Serie A side, who he joined from Genk in 2017.
Sokratis rejects Qatar move
Arsenal defender Sokratis has a lucrative offer to move to Qatar as he has his heart set on joining Napoli.
That is according to a report from Inside Futbol, who are reporting that Sokratis could sign a lucrative contract in Qatar, but wants to join Napoli instead.
The report adds the defender would be able to earn €2.5m per year if he moves to the Serie A side, but that fee could be significantly more should he wish to move to Qatar.
Gennaro Gattuso’s side are hoping to Sokratis on a free transfer this summer, even though he still has one-year left on his deal at the Emirates Stadium.
