ESPN have reported that Arsenal intends to open an internal investigation into overpayment for the signing of Nicolas Pépé last summer. It comes in conjunction with the large-scale restructure in the club’s scouting and recruitment department which has seen some of Arsenal’s most reputable and long-serving scouts relieved of their duties.
Technical Director Edu Gaspar is said to be behind the drastic move in investigating Pépé’s £72 million transfer. It is said to be a reactionary response to the club’s present financial difficulties, which saw 55 staff members made redundant last week.
Arsenal owe a fee in the region of £10 million to LOSC Lille this summer as part of their instalment agreement for Pépé’s transfer payment
