Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Arsenal this evening with Atletico Madrid having confirmed the player’s release clause has been triggered and his contract at the Spanish capital terminated.
The Gunners have triggered the 27-year-old’s €50m (£45.4m) release clause and now face a race against time to push the transfer through before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
Thomas is completed his medical in London, with the first part being done in Spain earlier today.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that personal terms were already agreed between the two parties, with the Ghanaian signing a five-year deal keeping him at the Emirates Stadium until 2025.
Thomas will become Arsenal’s most expensive signing of the summer window and will join following the departure of Matteo Guendouzi on loan to Hertha Berlin.
The Gunners had also been interested in a deal for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar, but made a late move for Thomas after seeing those talks collapse.
