Aston Villa have agreed a £20 million deal with Arsenal for Argentinian keeper Emiliano Martinez, according to sources in London.
Arsenal keeper Martinez is looking for a transfer away from the Emirates after Brenda Leno returned as the club’s number one.
According to football journalist John Percy, Aston Villa have agreed to pay £20 million for Martinez.
The player is completing a medical at Villa Park this afternoon and could feature in the side’s first game of the season.
Dean Smith’s men will play Sheff Utd at home on Monday 21st September. Martinez is set to become Villa’s first choice keeper, replacing current options Tom Heaton and Orjan Nyland.
His value drastically increased towards the end of last season after he impressed while in post for Arsenal after Leno injury.
Martinez played an important part in Arsenal’s FA Cup final victory over Chelsea and their Community Shield victory over Liverpool. Putting in a superb performance in both matches.
The 27-year-old had to wait years for a chance in the first team. He’s been loaned out a total of six times while part of the Arsenal setup, including spells at Wolves and Getafe.
But now Martinez could finally be a first team starter in the Prem under Dean Smith.
