(mother) on 4 March 1992 in Bietigheim-Bissingen.

He started to show interest in football at a very early age, as he joined the SV
Germania Bietigheim Youth Academy in 1998 when he was barely six years old. Before taking football seriously by joining an academy, Bernd Leno would play football in
“bad pitches” with his friends.

Bernd Leno started his career early, at the age of 6, precisely. He started at SV
Germania Bietigheim Youth Academy, where he played most of his childhood football.

Surprisingly, Bernd Leno didn’t start as a goalkeeper. He was a midfielder with his youth club, and he was still a midfielder when he was picked amongst 200 others for trials at VfB Stuttgart. He passed the trials and got signed onto the VfB Stuttgart youth team.

On a fateful day, the club keeper failed to show up for a match, and they were left with no options. The coach asked if anyone would like to be a goalkeeper, at least for the day. Nobody ever imagined that the innocent looking midfielder who opted to stand between the bars for the match will later become a record-breaking Arsenal goalkeeper. Surprisingly, he performed exceptionally well and made the resolve to keep being a goalkeeper for the rest of his career. His parents bought him gloves, and he was completely transformed into a goalkeeper.

Bernd Leno played out his entire youth career at VfB Stuttgart. Seeing his excellence at the goalpost, the management decided to promote him to the senior team. However, he didn’t get to feature for the club as much as they’d wish, as Bayer Leverkusen showed interest in him not long after. Unsurprisingly, and to the dismay of Stuttgart fans, Bernd Leno accepted Leverkusen’s offer, and he got promoted from being a third division player to playing in the elite Bundesliga.

Four days after he left off to Leverkusen on loan, he made his first appearance for the club. After his third match, he began his impressive string of records by becoming the third keeper in Bundesliga history to keep a clean sheet in his first three games.

2017. He became a regular face in the club and 2013, the contract was revised and extended to 2018.

Looking at his career with Leverkusen, one can easily predict that it will go well forever, but it was not to be. On October 2015, Bernd Leno performed a huge blunder that almost destroyed his relationship with Leverkusen fans.

Although he completed his 300th appearance with Leverkusen in 2018, he was already wanted out of the club. His departure from the club was much of an upgrade, as he got signed by Arsenal FC on 19th June 2018.

This is understandable, given that Germany is known to produce the world’s best goalkeepers. Moving ahead of Manuel Neuer to become Germany’s favorite goalkeeper is no mean feat.
