Arsenal’s transfer dealings have dominated the headlines as expected, and after Mikel Arteta’s press conference today, it’s been more of the same. Here is an evening digest of the very latest headlines.
Wolves eye Maitland-Niles
Wolves are eyeing a move for Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
According to the Daily Mail, Wolves are preparing a second offer for the Gunners prospect after seeing a £15m bid turned down.
The report claims Maitland-Niles is unsure about his future, considering a departure.
It’s claimed the 23-year-old wants to play for the Gunners but he will prioritise first-team opportunities before anything else.
Arsenal still ‘active’ in transfer market – Arteta
“We are looking at different options,” he said in today’s press conference. “I would say we are active in the market for players in and out.
“At the moment the squad balance is not the ideal we want to achieve so there is still some work to do.
“We have to bear in mind the complication with this transfer market and the complexity and the timing, because you can see that clubs are behaving in many different ways and it is a little bit uncertain how this will work in the next few weeks.
“It is going to be very difficult to achieve what we want in one window or two windows.
“It is a process, it has to evolve and most importantly it has to be a sustainable model that we can consistently feed in using our academy players.”
Arsenal table £20million bid for Celtic Forward
Arsenal have reportedly made a £20million bid to Celtic for striker Odsonne Edouard.
According to journalist Duncan Castles, the Gunners are believed to have seen a £15million bid rejected and have gone back with an improved offer.
Edouard will likely be a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette, who has been linked with Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
Arteta speaks on Lacazette
Mikel Arteta believes Alexandre Lacazette will stay at Arsenal this summer.
The French forward has been linked with a move to one of Atletico Madrid or Juventus with competition heating up in the front line at the Emirates Stadium.
But according to Gunners boss Arteta, Lacazette is happy at the club, and it seems a move is unlikely, at least this summer.
“He’s really happy here,” said Arteta in Friday’s press conference.
Arsenal make offer for Raya
According to Sport, David Raya’s agent has confirmed that Arsenal have made an offer to Brentford.
The goalkeeper is thought to be a target for the Gunners, as a possible replacement for Aston Villa-bound Emi Martinez.
Lacazette ‘delighted’ with interest
Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette is ‘delighted’ with interest shown by Atletico Madrid, according to Spanish outlet AS.
The Frenchman is reported to be a prime target for the La Liga side and has become the first choice striker for Diego Simone.
It is also claimed that Lacezette want to join the Spanish side ‘as soon as possible.’
