Fiorentina are on the verge of signing Arsenal
Midfielder Lucas Torreira on loan with an option to buy next summer, according to reports from Italy.
The Italian club will pay Arsenal a £8 million loan fee for Lucas Torreira. If they choose to exercise the option to sign him permanently next year, they will pay the Gunners a further £15 million. In total, the deal will cost Fiorentina £23million.
Arsenal were hoping to get the £26 million they spent to bring Torreira to the Emirates in the summer of 2018. Torino have also been interested in signing the midfielder this summer. Their manager, Marco Giampaolo, was the man who coached Torreira at Sampdoria before the defensive midfielder departed for Arsenal. The Turin based club have struggled to gather the cash required to seal this transfer
Lucas Torreira is open to a return to Italy. He is keen on playing regularly and this is unlikely to be the case at Arsenal. Dani Ceballos is on the verge of rejoining the Gunners on loan for another season. The Spaniard was one of Arsenal’s best player towards the end of last season and kept Torreira out of the side.
Arteta was desperate to bring the Real Madrid midfielder back to North London and that is a clear indication of the amount of game time Lucas Torreira can expect to get next season. He is keen on rebuilding the North London side’s midfield and Torreira does not appear to be in his plans. The Gunners need to move players on to pursue some of their primary transfer targets like Thomas Partey.
