Arsenal have already been given encouragement in regards to a summer transfer for Manuel Locatelli.
The Sassuolo midfielder was actually first earmarked as a target for the Gunners back in 2016 as an 18-year-old and on the books of Serie A giants AC Milan.
Now 23 years of age with more experience under his belt, Locatelli is now a senior Italy international and has also been linked with moves to Juventus as well as Premier League champions Manchester City.
However, it would appear that Arsenal are set to make their move to sign the midfielder as a potential replacement for Granit Xhaka who is expected to seal a move to AS Roma this summer.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, as per Reddit, the Gunners are ready to offer €40m (£34m) for Locatelli as Edu looks to seal the club’s first deal of the summer transfer window.
With that said, getting a deal over the line could be easier said than done.
The aforementioned report states that Locatelli, who impressed in Italy’s Euro 2020 opener against Turkey last Friday, would prefer a move to Juventus which presents a problem for the north London outfit.
Especially as the 23-year-old has already hinted at leaving Sassuolo this summer.
Although, he has stressed that a decision regarding his future won’t be made until after Italy’s involvement in this summer’s tournament is over.
“It’s just talk. I will decide after the European Championship,” he said, as per Football Italia when speaking ahead of the Euro 2020 opener against Turkey last week. “There’s such an important competition to play in, and I’m only focused on this.
“I rely on what happens on the pitch, the real things, everything else is just gossip, it’s useless to talk about it.”
