According to reports in London, Newcastle United only want to take Arsenal defender Calum Chambers on loan. But Arsenal insist on selling the player in a permanent deal.
It’s claimed that Newcastle still want a defender, having failed with their attempts to lure another Arsenal defender Rob Holding to St James’ Park.
Newcastle now want his Arsenal teammate Chambers, and the Gunners are prepared to sell the 25-year-old for around £12million.
However, the Magpies prefer to take Chambers on loan, having already spent cash on Jamal Lewis and Callum Wilson this summer.
Newcastle wanted Rob Holding on loan, so it does make sense that the Magpies only want Chambers on loan too having failed in attempt to sign Rob Holding.
Chambers, 25, has often shown glimpses of his talent at Arsenal, playing as a center back, a right back and also a defensive midfielder. But he suffered a torn ACL in December 2019, keeping him out of action for much of Mikel Arteta’s time in charge.
Arsenal need to move on a centre back or two with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes now on board, and Chambers could be that man.
Other clubs are keen, but Newcastle will hope to win the race and bolster Bruce’s defensive options having loaned out Florian Lejeune to Alaves.
